Rome, 1st August 2013

Dear friends,

we are pleased to inform you that the 38th European Coordination Conference for solidarity with the Sahrawi People will be held in Rome from 15th to 17th November 2013.

The choice of Rome has been prompted by the desire to resume the modality inaugurated just in the capital in 2007, with the realization of a Parliamentary Conference, the day preceding the opening of the Eucoco, to gather members of elected National and European institutions in order to assume firm commitments in their respective institutions.

The EUCOCO will be attended, as usual, by a large delegation of the SADR (including human rights defenders and members of civil society), with actors of solidarity, representatives of national and local institutions of different countries, organizations for the defense of human rights, lawyers, international observers, representatives of political parties and trade unions, international personalities.

The reflection will focus on Self-determination for the Sahrawi people as a condition for peace in the Maghreb, with the intent to read the Sahrawi resistance in the context of popular uprisings in the Arab world - of which Sahrawi were the initiators in October 2010 - and transition processes in the Mediterranean and North Africa. It is foreseen the participation of a delegation of civil society from Maghreb. Another major challenge will be the participation of a significant number of representatives of the Occupied Territories by Morocco, not only as witnesses, but as partners for specific programs to be launched, with particular attention to human rights.

ANSPS is honored to invite you to take part to the Conference: your active presence is very important to confirm and revive the commitment with the Sahrawi people. Further communications will follow with some logistical and organizational information, a more defined program of the event, registration procedures and fees. In the meantime, we ask you to spread the initiative among your contacts.

Hoping to see you in Rome, we send you our warmest greetings.

The President

Luciano Ardesi
